When students show up for Kevin Gaugler's Spanish in technology class at Marist College, they don't have to lug around a textbook. The entire class is done electronically. For Gaugler, who teaches the course, not using printed textbooks made sense. "The whole course is task-based learning," he said. "There just isn't a textbook I could choose." While college students frequently have the option of buying used textbooks or even electronic versions that can save them a little cash, purchasing required textbooks can cost hundreds of dollars.
